It's monkey's first vacation and he is enjoying himself. He gets in on all the photo ops.
Grandma Great gave us the best Christmas present ever! She rented the North Star Lodge in Island Park so that we could all take a vacation together. It all started last October when Kim, Shelley, Randy and I decided to look for a Cabin to vacation at this Summer. Patti and Roy joined us and we gathered around the computer to look for cabins large enough to fit 30-35 of us. Before long we found our cabin and Grandma offered to pay for it for our Christmas . It's unreal to think about everything that has happened since that day. Never in a million years did we think that Kim would not be with us. He is dearly missed every single day. But despite that great hole in our family, we went with a positive attitude, determined to make new memories that will continue to bind the generations of our family together forever. Everything went well and we had an awesome time.
We met at Shelly's house to divide into teams for a "Survivor" type game that she had planned. Everyone got team
bandanas and disposable cameras to document our vacation, then we headed out. It was quite a sight to see 9 different vehicles strung out down the freeway! Finally, we made it to Idaho Falls, found a Kentucky Fried chicken restaurant, and took our lunch to eat at a beautiful little park overlooking the Snake River. Cooper and Kennedy liked the flowers.
I brought crafts for us to make. Kennedy made a cute monkey necklace with Mommy's help. She really likes monkeys, especially her purple one!
We wanted our vacation to be really relaxing and without deadlines, so Old Faithful was the only place in the park that we planned to visit. Some of us went on walks while others looked around at the shops. We all were excited to see Old Faithful do its thing!
This big buffalo was begging for his picture to be taken. Kennedy was game, but cooper thought that it looked too dangerous!
Thank you, Grandma Great, for the awesome vacation! It was the best gift you could have possibly given us.
Jackson lived for the fishing and Pa was a good sport to take him. Jackson refused to leave the river until he caught a fish on HIS pole. But in the end he had to be content with reeling in Jason and
Jake's fish. He got to catch and release several. Pa baited and set up about a thousand hooks over the course of the weekend.
The kids got to decorate their own "possibles bags". They had beads, feathers and paints to choose from. The parents liked it as much as the kids! The bags turned out really great and they used them all weekend to keep collected treasures in. They also made bear claw necklaces and race cars.
The Moms and Grandmas made beaded bracelets. It was a fun project for us.
This group is always up for a game of cards and they are very competitive. Cards and pool were the main activities of the night.

The boys loved the animal fur display. Even though you weren't supposed to pick them up, we did any way. The boys all wanted to pretend that they were the lucky hunters of these trophy animals.
Look! Grandma and Pa bagged a skunk! We had such a good time and everyone agreed that we should do it again, so start saving your pennies!

No one got lost but we did use Aimee's experience as a teaching opportunity for the boys!
